WORLD OF WARCRAFT: FOREVER / CLASS GUIDE
Shape the fight with spells, control, and carefully timed bursts.
Mage suits players who enjoy managing space and choosing when to commit their damage. The current talent snapshot offers three distinct directions: Arcane balances spell sequences against Mana, Fire builds around critical strikes, and Frost connects control effects with defensive tools and harder-hitting spells.

THREE WAYS TO BUILD YOUR CLASS
Compare the three trees and a few of their defining talents. Names, ranks, and descriptions below come from the attributed beta snapshot; the summaries are editorial guidance.
Datamined · source build 1.60.1.69876 [5]
Ranged damage · Mana and spell sequencing
Arcane combines cost management, casting support, and temporary power. Its central tradeoff is how long to build an effect before spending it, while preserving enough Mana for the rest of the encounter.
Repeated casts raise the cost of Arcane Blast and the damage of other spells. Casting a different damage spell consumes the effect.
15% of base mana | 30 yd range | 2.5 sec cast
Blasts the target with energy, dealing 57 to 65 Arcane damage. Each time you cast Arcane Blast, the damage of all your other spells is increased by 10% and the mana cost of Arcane Blast is increased by 175%. Effect stacks up to 4 times and lasts 8 sec or until any other damage spell is cast.
Listed direct-damage spells can trigger a faster, Mana-free Arcane Missiles channel. Arcane Blast has the higher trigger chance.
Gives your Arcane Blast spell a 40% chance, and your Fireball, Frostbolt, and Frostfire Bolt spells a 20% chance to reduce the channeled duration of your next Arcane Missiles spell by 50%, reduce the Mana cost by 100%, and missiles fire every 0.5 sec.
Damage spells can grant Clearcasting, removing the Mana cost of the next damage spell.
Gives you a 2% chance of entering a Clearcasting state after any damage spell hits a target. The Clearcasting state reduces the mana cost of your next damage spell by 100%.
Gives you a 4% chance of entering a Clearcasting state after any damage spell hits a target. The Clearcasting state reduces the mana cost of your next damage spell by 100%.
Gives you a 6% chance of entering a Clearcasting state after any damage spell hits a target. The Clearcasting state reduces the mana cost of your next damage spell by 100%.
Gives you a 8% chance of entering a Clearcasting state after any damage spell hits a target. The Clearcasting state reduces the mana cost of your next damage spell by 100%.
Gives you a 10% chance of entering a Clearcasting state after any damage spell hits a target. The Clearcasting state reduces the mana cost of your next damage spell by 100%.
Ranged damage · Critical strikes and follow-up casts
Fire links direct hits, lingering burns, and critical-strike effects. Several talents change what a successful cast enables next, making the timing of a follow-up spell part of the tree's appeal.
Fire spell critical strikes add a burn, connecting a direct hit with damage over the following seconds.
Your critical strikes from Fire damage spells cause the target to burn for an additional 8% of your spell's damage over 4 sec.
Your critical strikes from Fire damage spells cause the target to burn for an additional 16% of your spell's damage over 4 sec.
Your critical strikes from Fire damage spells cause the target to burn for an additional 24% of your spell's damage over 4 sec.
Your critical strikes from Fire damage spells cause the target to burn for an additional 32% of your spell's damage over 4 sec.
Your critical strikes from Fire damage spells cause the target to burn for an additional 40% of your spell's damage over 4 sec.
Specified non-periodic critical strikes shorten Pyroblast's cast time in stacks. Three stacks total a 75% reduction.
Your non-periodic critical strikes with Fireball, Frostfire Bolt, Fire Blast, and Scorch grant Hot Streak for 15 sec. Hot Streak reduces the cast time of Pyroblast by 25%, stacking up to 3 times.
Source-reported prerequisite: Pyroblast. Required rank: unknown.
Successive Fire hits build critical-strike chance until the effect has produced four non-periodic Fire critical strikes.
Instant | 3 min cooldown
When activated, this spell causes each of your Fire damage spell hits to increase your critical strike chance with Fire damage spells by 10%. This effect lasts until you have caused 4 non-periodic critical strikes with Fire spells.
Source-reported prerequisite: Critical Mass. Required rank: unknown.
Ranged damage · Control and protection
Frost connects Chills and Frozen-target bonuses with shields and defensive cooldowns. It offers several ways to preserve casting space, although a creature's susceptibility to control still matters.
A direct Frost attack with a substantial damage bonus against Frozen targets.
45 Mana | 30 yd range | Instant
Deals 28 to 32 Frost damage to an enemy target. Deals 300% increased damage to Frozen targets.
Chill effects can make the next spell treat its target as Frozen, or the next two spells at maximum rank.
Gives your Chill effects a 15% chance to grant you the Fingers of Frost effect, which treats your next 1 spell cast as if the target were Frozen. Lasts 15 sec.
Gives your Chill effects a 15% chance to grant you the Fingers of Frost effect, which treats your next 2 spells cast as if the target were Frozen. Lasts 15 sec.
Source-reported prerequisite: Ice Lance. Required rank: unknown.
An absorb shield that protects spellcasting from damage-related interruption or delay while it holds.
305 Mana | Instant | 30 sec cooldown
Instantly shields you, absorbing 447 damage. Lasts 1 min. While the shield holds, your spellcasts will not be interrupted or delayed from taking damage.
Source-reported prerequisite: Cold Snap. Required rank: unknown.
TOOLKIT, CHOICES, AND ANNOUNCED CHANGES
Classic foundation
Classic Mages use Mana, wear cloth, conjure refreshments, and provide portals.
Forever announcement
The original-race choices below come from Blizzard's Classic roster. The additions are explicitly announced for Forever; the Skyborne Mage choice belongs to the Alliance.
| Faction | Classic choices | Announced Forever additions |
|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Human, Gnome | Skyborne |
| Horde | Troll, Undead | Orc |
Beta talent snapshot
Arcane's current descriptions tie powerful spell combinations to a rising cost. Arcane Blast strengthens other damage spells while making repeated Arcane Blasts more expensive. A different damage spell spends the effect. Arcane Concentration and Missile Barrage create opportunities to cast without the usual Mana cost, so recognizing a trigger matters as much as choosing a school.
Fire emphasizes critical strikes and their follow-up effects. Frost emphasizes Chills, Frozen targets, and protection. These are readings of the supplied trees: they explain the decisions each path creates without assuming a finished rotation or an endgame damage ranking.

BETA / REVIEWED SEPTEMBER 23, 2026
The opening beta supports characters through level 20. Blizzard plans to raise the cap to 30 later in testing, so a full tree preview includes talents beyond the opening playable range. [7]
When Arcane Missiles is interrupted by damage, it can fire a full-damage bolt instead of the expected truncated bolt.
Issue update: [6]EXPLORE YOUR BUILD
Browse all 54 talents and 146 rank descriptions across the three trees. Inspect talent icons and pop-up descriptions, add or remove experimental points, and save or share a plan.
The planner uses an editable point budget. Required prerequisite ranks, tier requirements, level-by-level point rules, and Legacy interactions remain unverified, so a saved plan is an experiment to revisit as the beta develops.
