WORLD OF WARCRAFT: FOREVER / CLASS GUIDE
Choose healing, shield defense or melee judgment.
Paladin is the most detailed official example of Forever's class redesign. Its three trees open different ways to support a party, with healing, shield tanking and Holy-infused melee damage all represented. The useful decision is which responsibility you want to take on: protecting allies through healing, managing enemies from the front, or turning weapon attacks and Seals into pressure.

THREE WAYS TO BUILD YOUR CLASS
Compare the three trees and a few of their defining talents. Names, ranks, and descriptions below come from the attributed beta snapshot; the summaries are editorial guidance.
Datamined · source build 1.60.1.69876 [5]
Healing and Holy spell support
Holy mixes healing efficiency, protected casting and Holy Shock interactions. Several talents affect specific spells or critical effects, making the sequence and purpose of a cast more interesting than a flat healing bonus.
Critical effects from Holy Shock or Flash of Light shorten a subsequent Holy Light cast within the listed window.
Your Holy Shock and Flash of Light critical hits reduce the cast time of your next Holy Light cast within 15 sec by 0.5 sec.
Your Holy Shock and Flash of Light critical hits reduce the cast time of your next Holy Light cast within 15 sec by 1 sec.
Targets an enemy for Holy damage or an ally for healing. Other Holy talents build on that dual purpose.
160 Mana | 40 yd range | Instant | 10 sec cooldown
Blasts the target with Holy energy, causing 129 to 139 Holy damage to an enemy, or 110 to 118 healing to an ally.
Prepares a target for the next Holy Shock, with different party-healing or enemy-damage effects. Each Paladin may have one active Vigil per party.
730 Mana | 40 yd range | 1.5 sec cast | 6 sec cooldown
Applies Light's Vigil to the target for 30 sec. Your next Holy Shock cast on them triggers no cooldown and causes friendly targets to heal their party for 325 to 343, or enemy targets to suffer 175 to 189 Holy damage and refund 75% of Light's Vigil's Mana cost. You may only have 1 Light's Vigil active per Paladin, per party.
Source-reported prerequisite: Holy Shock. Required rank: unknown.
Shield tanking
Protection adds Mana support, threat and short defensive responses around a shield and Righteous Fury. The conditions on those effects matter as much as the listed numbers.
Resets Judgement's remaining cooldown and removes the Mana cost of the next Judgement, providing a second opportunity to use it.
Instant | 1 min cooldown
Finishes the remaining cooldown on your Judgement ability and reduces the Mana cost of your next Judgement by 100%.
Source-reported prerequisite: Improved Seal of Fury. Required rank: unknown.
Creates a temporary absorb based on maximum Health. It applies Forbearance and is unavailable while Forbearance is active.
110 Mana | Instant | 5 min cooldown
When activated, this ability grants you an absorb shield equal to 100% of your maximum health for 8 sec. Applies Forbearance for 1 min. Cannot be cast while Forbearance is active.
Adds Holy Strike threat and, with Righteous Fury active, makes Holy Strike provide a brief reduction to incoming damage.
Increases the threat generated by your Holy Strike ability 5%. While Righteous Fury is active, Holy Strike also reduces your damage taken by 2% for 6 sec.
Increases the threat generated by your Holy Strike ability 10%. While Righteous Fury is active, Holy Strike also reduces your damage taken by 4% for 6 sec.
Increases the threat generated by your Holy Strike ability 15%. While Righteous Fury is active, Holy Strike also reduces your damage taken by 6% for 6 sec.
Increases the threat generated by your Holy Strike ability 20%. While Righteous Fury is active, Holy Strike also reduces your damage taken by 8% for 6 sec.
Increases the threat generated by your Holy Strike ability 25%. While Righteous Fury is active, Holy Strike also reduces your damage taken by 10% for 6 sec.
Melee and Holy damage
Retribution develops weapon pressure alongside the Seal and Judgement system. Its spell-scaling and Seal-echo options invite different experiments without establishing a best build.
Improves Holy Strike damage and lets the strike refresh Judgement effects on its target.
Increases the damage of your Holy Strike ability by 10% and causes it to refresh all Judgement effects on the target.
Converts a portion of Intellect into additional spell damage and healing, supporting an interaction between caster stats and offensive options.
Increases your spell damage and healing by up to 33% of your Intellect.
Increases your spell damage and healing by up to 66% of your Intellect.
Increases your spell damage and healing by up to 100% of your Intellect.
Replacing one of the named Seals stores an echo of the previous Seal, which the next melee attack consumes.
When you replace your Seal of Command, Seal of Righteousness, Seal of Fury, or Seal of Justice with a different Seal, gain an Echo. Your next melee attack applies the replaced Seal's effects, consuming the Echo.
TOOLKIT, CHOICES, AND ANNOUNCED CHANGES
Forever announcement
Blizzard still describes a Paladin without a conventional interrupt or broad slowing toolkit.
| Tool | Blizzard's preview |
|---|---|
| Holy Strike | An instant Holy weapon strike learned at level 6; its base cooldown is 12 seconds. |
| Judgment | Leaves the active Seal in place. |
| Seal of Fury | Favors fast weapons, grants small absorbs, and makes Judgment taunt. |
| Consecration | Baseline at level 20, with stronger damage and threat against the first four targets. |

Forever announcement
Undead Paladins bring this class to the Horde. Their story begins with former servants of the Light facing distrust among the Forsaken, with Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal's Whispering Wood as a focal point. Blizzard also announced a distinct level-60 epic mount quest built around Retribution.

Beta talent snapshot
| Tree | Examples in the snapshot | Why the distinction matters |
|---|---|---|
| Holy | Reverence permits some regeneration while casting; Illumination returns Mana after qualifying critical heals. | A regeneration talent and a conditional spell-cost return produce value in different circumstances. |
| Protection | Improved Seal of Fury restores Mana after its absorb is fully consumed; Shield Specialization restores Mana from blocks with a listed internal limit. | These benefits require the relevant defensive event. They are not unconditional regeneration. |
| Retribution | Benediction reduces instant ability costs, Holy Conduit lowers costs for selected spells, and Sanctified Judgement returns part of a Seal's Mana cost. | Check which abilities a talent names before treating it as a discount for the whole spellbook. |

Holy has several ways to prepare a larger heal. Infusion of Light lets critical Holy Shocks and Flashes of Light shorten the next Holy Light cast. Divine Favor instead sets up a critical effect for one of its named spells. Voice of Truth covers a different problem by temporarily preventing silence and interrupt effects.
Light's Vigil connects a target choice to a later Holy Shock. Its listed friendly effect heals that target's party, while its enemy effect adds damage and refunds part of the Vigil cost. The two branches make the target meaningful; the talent is not simply a universal extra heal.

Protection rewards being attacked under specific conditions. Holy Shield provides a limited number of block charges; Iron Creed adds threat to Holy Strike and a short damage-reduction window while Righteous Fury is active. Templar's Bulwark is a separate absorb that applies Forbearance and cannot be cast while Forbearance is already active.
Retribution offers several routes for combining melee and spell effects. Sacred Arbiter improves Holy Strike and refreshes Judgement effects. Champion of the Light scales spell damage and healing from Intellect. Twist of Light retains an echo of a replaced Seal for the next melee attack, making the order of Seal choices part of the talent's behavior.
