PvP / HEARTHSIDE CODEX REPORT
The new 15-versus-15 battleground, Normal and PvP rulesets, grouping boundaries, and the Honor progression structure described in the developer Q&A.

Darkspear Islands brings a new battleground to Forever, while the realmless structure makes ruleset choice central to world PvP. The announcements and later developer Q&A establish how conflict and progression work, with exact Honor thresholds and reward tables still to come.
The new battleground takes place off Kalimdor's coast and supports 15 players per team. Blizzard describes strategic control points combined with Arathi Basin-style flag capture and defense.
That description establishes an objective-based fight over positions. It does not yet provide a complete map guide, a score threshold, resource timing, a queue level requirement, or the final reward table.

Agree on a ruleset before creating characters with friends. Choosing the same faction alone is not enough to guarantee that the characters can group.
| Choice | Announced behavior |
|---|---|
| Normal ruleset | PvP requires mutual consent. |
| PvP ruleset | Travel in contested territory includes world conflict. |
| Roleplaying ruleset | A separate community option for roleplaying; the recap does not define additional PvP settings for it. |

Claim · normalRulesetNormal focuses on cooperation; player-versus-player combat requires mutual consent.
Claim · pvpRulesetPvP emphasizes conflict in contested territory.
Claim · roleplayingRulesetRoleplaying is intended for a roleplay-oriented community.
Cross-ruleset grouping is not supported, and Horde and Alliance remain separate for grouping. A group for dungeons, raids, or other adventures therefore needs characters with the same ruleset and faction choices.
Blizzard intends to support faction balance in the PvP ruleset with an approach similar to Season of Discovery. It has not supplied an exact balance ratio or the specific controls that will enforce it.
Language preferences help players encounter others who share their preference, while two-part names provide region-wide character identities within the larger connected structure.

Hardcore arrives after the main launch, in the winter window of the 2026–2027 roadmap. A Hardcore character that dies may transfer to another ruleset, including PvP.
Hardcore progression is kept separate on the way in. Collections, Legacy Points, and rewards earned in Hardcore can become available outside it, while progress from other rulesets does not feed back into Hardcore.

Blizzard's beta launch article places the new battleground among content opening later in the test. It was not part of the listed week-one scope, and the article supplies no exact opening date for it.
The spring and summer roadmap entries include PvP refreshes. Exact Honor thresholds, reward tables, and arena formats are still not detailed in the reviewed material.
